“She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
“Winter is dead.”
― A.A. Milne,
Once the weather starts to become warmer it is almost as if there is a cosmic shift, excitement bubbles inside of me and there seems to be a newfound joy that fills the air as people don sundresses and shorts and spend the warmer days by the beach.
October is always my favourite month and my excitement almost feels tangible. My wardrobe becomes brighter and louder, with my signature look of this month seeming to consist of off the shoulder tops, floaty items, lots of jewellery (always lots of jewellery), everything shiny and sparkly and as much colour as I can squeeze in.
At the moment I am feeling inspired by free-spirited travellers, who move around in decorated caravans with copious amounts of flowers. I’m visualising a young girl with tumbling chocolate locks dancing shoeless in the long grass with her ruby red head band floating in the breeze, her movements resulting in a harmonious jingle due to her layers of jewellery.
I’m picturing young smiling women laying down on magenta picnic rugs with bottles of bubbly, their slight intoxication resulting in hiccups and giggles. Their sun kissed skin is glinting in the aureolin-gold sunset and their sugar plum lips stained berry-red from the raspberry’s they’re munching on. Gem stones cover every inch of their bodies and flowers are nestled in their hair.
I’m imagining a group of rainbow haired girls getting up to mischief in graffiti-art decorated streets, the sequins that they are wearing glinting under the moon light. A trail of glitter is left behind them, the energy they’re emitting fuelling the cities fire like the ember-red leaves of autumn, burning slowly.
