When I was a kid I had an obsession with going through catalogues and circling the things that I wanted. I don’t know why I did it, I obviously didn’t have the money to buy any of it as I only got $1 a week in pocket money (if I was lucky). Most of the time my parents weren’t going to buy it for me either but that wasn’t the point for me, there was something about it that I found fun.
Sometimes mum and I would read Home Beautiful magazine together and there would often be a section where you they would talk about different options of an item that you could buy, such as a vase. The page would be split into sections like ‘cheap’, ‘mid range’ and ‘expensive’ and more often than not I would always like the most expensive item. This lead to my mum saying that I had “expensive taste” which was something she would say to me often as a kid.
I realise now that I have Champagne taste on a Passion Pop budget… Which I don’t think necessarily translates to having expensive taste but more the fact that I just like to be surrounded by the prettier things in life, almost like how magpies are apparently attracted to shiny objects. Besides, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a good ol’ bottle of ppop!
I’m always wary of saying that I’m a ‘believer’ when it comes to star signs but I guess it’s no secret that I’m interested in anything mystical and am interested in how the planets affect us – most of the time when I read reputable sources my star sign reading is pretty spot on . This may seem unrelated but bare with me here. I’m a Libra, and a few of the main characteristics that Librans seem to have are that we’re indecisive, fair and balanced which sometimes results in being a people pleaser, social butterflies, we hold grudges (oops), we know how to get what we want without being manipulative, and lastly, the two that I want to focus on most, is that we apparently tend to care a lot about appearance and might have a bit of shopping problem…
All of those characteristics are 100% spot on for me but as I said I want to focus on the last two. My cupboards and rails are absolutely overflowing with clothes but whenever I’m getting ready I always seem to struggle to find something to wear which always earns a laugh from my family and friends at the absurdity of it all. I came across a quote on Tumblr that sums this up perfectly:
libra: i don’t have anything to wear.person: you have a closet full of clothes??????libra: for who i want to be today
Every time I’m getting dressed I want my clothes to accurately represent the part of my personality that I want to cater to that day which means shopping is serious business for me. I always have a clear idea of what I want and how much I’m willing to spend as I trawl through website after website before I settle on anything. When you’re saving for trips overseas like I am but want to have the luxury of being a different person every day you have to be willing to spend a little bit more on items that can ‘make’ an outfit and then scrimp when it comes to other items, which is why I love going to markets!
This is my roundabout way of saying that you don’t necessarily need to spend big bucks to dress and feel ‘expensive’. For me, clothes that fit well and suit my personality always make me feel a million bucks. This outfit in particular makes me feel ~~so luxe~~ thanks to the satin like material and the soft rosey pink hues. It’s amazing how clothes have such an effect on our moods, don’t you think? As one of my favourite designers Alexander McQueen once said, “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment”. FASHION SHOULD BE FUN!!
